Alternate colored rows in Excel
Posted by Theo Heselmans on July 12th, 2007
Alternate colored rows takes me back in history when I had to work with piles of pyjama-striped chain paper, that were spawned from big noisy lineprinters.
People still like alternate rows, as it improves readability.
It's very easy to do in Excel using 'conditional formatting'.
Select some rows in Excel, and apply the following formatting:
The result is as follows:
Neat, isn't it ?

Beautiful. I wish Notes views had something like this.
:-)
Hi Theo,
Sorry for the long silence - LOTS going on!
Just wanted to thank you for this tip - I needed it today and I knew just where to find it! Just great. See you at ILUG. K.
As of Notes6 you can!
Modify your view and insert a hidden column as the first column in the view and then in the column propertys select "Use value as color" then enter a formula such as:
@If(@Date(MsgDate) = @TextToTime("Today");255:0:0; 128:128:128)
This displays all text in the row as red if MsgDate is today or grey if not.
(or simply enter the colour coordinates without any If statement)
To display background as a color as well as text enter two values.
First value is background second is text colour.
255:0:0 : 128:128:128
If you enter a single value then it assumes text!
THIS JUST SAVED ME SO MUCH TIME. haha. WOW. Thanks!
