Invitation !
Posted by Theo Heselmans on June 19th, 2007
Last year in September,
I was invited to help with the 'vendange' (grape harvest) at Château Goubau.
This winery is situated in de 'Côtes de Castillon',
only 10 km. from the famous (and beautiful) town of St. Emillion.
The new owners as of 2005 (Stéphane & Bea Goubau-Goossens) were old acquaintances, and have become good friends ever since.
As a wine-lover I had a blast doing all kinds of geeky wine-stuff at the domain.
Take a look at my 3 albums on Pixagogo:
The reason I bring all those sweet memories up now, is that their first wine, the 2005, has won a golden medal at the recent 'Concours Mondial de Bruxelles' !
I tasted them myself (directly from the barrel and recently the final assemblage from the bottle) and they are astonishing !
Stéphane and Bea are inviting wine enthusiasts to a free tasting.
The place of the venue is Lage Kaart 79, 2930 Brasschaat, Belgium,
this Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of June, from 11.00h to 18.00h.
You can buy their wines at Van Eccelpoel, in Herentals.

Hi Theo (and Goubau-family)
Just had the opportunity to taste three wines from the Goubau-property in Castillon. Here's my view:
1. Ch. Goubau Rosé 2005
The rosé-blend gave good, spicy impressions of young red berries, moderate alcohol and ended in a spicy rather dry mineral finish. (far away from the half sweet, jammy Rosé d'Ajou "softdrinks").
Will match perfectly with smoked dry meat.
5 €
2. The Ch. Goubau La Source 2005 (2e vin)
Full colour cherry-rubin.
Quite lively flavours of medium ripe forest fruit, a little touch of vanilla and strong alcohol impression.
The strong, dry tannins will be appreciated by die-hards of the stuff but give them (the tannins I mean) some time to match with the whole picture. The wine ends up with a nutty, spicy note. A very authentic Bordeaux indeed!
10 €
3. Ch Goubau 2005: (1er vin.)
Full ruby colour.
Dry but full-bodied tannins that, though stronger than in the previous wine, generate a more agreeable impression, probably due to the long (15 months) oak aging. On the other hand they are well kept in balance with the moderate acidity on the pallat . Ripe, well-balanced and full-bodied wine for a correct price!
15 €.
Tx for the invitation !
