Australian Shiraz: can’t be beat
Posted by Theo Heselmans on April 13th, 2009
Shiraz (or Syrah) keeps surprising me. For a tasting coming up 4 weeks from now, I assembled an interesting selection of 9 Australian Shiraz wines.
As it's rather hectic in my dayjob (the reason for blogging so irregularly), I'm having fun just preparing for this event. I want to share with you what I'm going to offer then:
Name Year Origin Alc.% Producer 1 Quay Landing Shiraz South East 13,5 2 Barramundi, Shiraz Reserve Australia 14 Barramundi 3 Rosemount Shiraz Australia 13,5 Rosemount Estate 4 Vat 8 Shiraz, Deen De Bortoli South East 14 De Bortoli 5 Grant Burge Miamba Barossa 14,5 Grant Burge 6 d'Arenberg 'The Footbolt' Mc Laren Vale 14 d'Arenberg 7 d'Arenberg 'The Laughing Magpie' Mc Laren Vale 14,5 d'Arenberg 8 Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Coonawarra 13,5 Penfolds 9 Grant Burge Filsell Old Vine Barossa 15 Grant Burge
Try to get hold of one (or more) of these, and let me know what you think. I'm sure you can find some of them in your local wineshop.
Once we've tested them, I'll share our comments and score.

Yes this list includes some excellent examples of Australian Sharaz wines, but if you really want to taste the best you should try: Henschke "Hill of Grace", Penfolds "RWT" or of you can afford a bottle Penfolds "Grange".
