We've just returned from a 2 week vacation in Mexico.
The first week was a guided tour called 'Mundo Maya'. We've visited 6 major sites:

  • Chitzén Itza
  • Uxmal
  • Palenque
  • Tikal (Guatemala)
  • Xunantunich (Belize)
  • Tulum
It was a humbling experience. While we were still in the dark middle-ages, the Mayas already had an incredible sophisticated culture. The Spaniards are only partially to blame for their demise, as most of the collapse of their culture was their own doing.
We really had a great time. Mexicans are very friendly people, their food (including beer) is great, and they really try to make the best of your holiday.
I used my trusted Panasonic Lumix TZ3 to take over a 1000 pictures!
Here the link to the album containing my favorites:

So next time you (plan to) go to Mexico, look beyond Cancun and Playa del Carmen !
